United Sportsmen of Wisconsin (USW) would like to express our appreciation for the bi-partisan passage and signing of two very important bills for hunters, trappers and landowners.
The Sporting Heritage Act, AB 311, sponsored by state Representative Jim Steineke (R- 5) encourages the recruitment and retention of hunters and trappers through a multitude of initiatives set forth in the bill. On Monday, April 2, 2012, the bill was signed into law by Governor Walker.
The Wolf Hunting Bill, SB 411, sponsored by state Senator Terry Moulton (R-23), Rep, Scott Suder (R-69) authorizes the Department of Natural Resources to establish a season for the hunting of wolves in response to the long-overdue federal delisting of the species from the Endangered Species List. Hunters have served as an essential tool for the management of wildlife throughout this country and this legislation creates a framework for managing the state’s wolf population using this time-tested method. SB 411 was also signed by Governor Scott Walker on April 2, 2012.
USW would also like to thank all of the state legislators who worked on and voted for these important sporting bills and to Governor Scott Walker for signing these bills into law. “These 2 bills top off a historic pro-gun, pro-hunting session,” said USW President Dean Hamilton, “Sportsmen and women benefited greatly from this bi-partisan legislation in the state of Wisconsin.”
USW is a sporting advocacy group that works to preserve Wisconsin’s strong hunting and sporting heritage for our future generations. USW will protect the rights of and advocate on behalf of hunters, fishermen, trappers and gun owners in Wisconsin.
